FOREST MEDITATION

Now let us put our hymnals aside and anything that may disturb us.

Begin by getting comfortable in your seats
perhaps with your feet flat on the floor and

your hands resting in your lap in a palms up receiving position,
and then gently closing your eyes.

Begin the relaxation process, give yourself permission to relax, affirming to yourself that this is your time, your space; in this moment it is the right thing to do, to release, to let go, to re-lax!

You can feel a beautiful flow of peace, starting at the top of your head, letting the muscles of your scalp relax, then the forehead, the cheeks, the muscles around the jaw and the neck,
all relaxing,
feeling the wonderful warm feeling of relaxation spreading down through your body, from your shoulders down through the arms and hands, down through the trunk, the thighs, the legs, and finally the feet...

You can feel the restful warmth of physical relaxation all through your body now, from the top of your head, to the very tips of your toes.

Sense the flow of spiritual peace entering into your mind, giving you a sense of serenity, a sense of trust, and a beautiful sense of oneness with all that is, within and without.

Come along now to the edge of the forest, pause and ask permission to enter, and then take your first steps along the path.

Take a moment to breathe in the aroma of the earth's richness beneath your feet.

Slowly, take in long deep breaths of the refreshing tranquillity you have longed for.

As you listen to the music, take a few moments now to fill your lungs with the vitality of the moist scents of pine and cedar and visualize the beauty all around you.

As you begin to relax even more, acknowledge the inner peace you experience as you nourish your body with the fresh, clean air.

Now look around you. Enjoy the canopy of protection above you formed by the towering trees ... shielding you and offering strength as you begin to settle into this temple of beauty built by nature for all its creatures to enjoy.

Feel the security of being alone yet knowing that there is a warmth of love all around you.

Observe the scurrying of birds in dry leaves searching for food, hear the rustle of small animals and insects, accepting your presence. Be thankful for this moment in time and enjoy the happiness of birds fluttering above as though they were angels of protection hovering over you.

Observe the growth in plants and vines and shrubs; see that growing process as it happens. Know that your inner growth develops as surely and steadily, each depending on nourishment from the earth's energy. Notice the strength that seeps into your veins as you marvel at the power in this forest and you begin to sense that this is where you belong.

As you continue to look about, take time to absorb the spirit of the forest and begin to listen.

Hear the sounds of nature's woodland, and let your body acknowledge the rhythm of movement that surrounds you ... allow it to become a part of your heartbeat. As you feel the blood pumping through your body, you sense the energy that rushes through you, giving force to your very being. Know that the higher vibration which you feel is your connection to spirit.

Lift your face to the dew drops falling from lush greenness and accept this healing power. Feel peace in the bird's songs and happiness in your heart as their music resounds magically through the woods.

With your hand touch the dampness of the leaves, and feel the textures of the rough barks.

Rest for a moment on the cool rock that appears just before you and take in its energy as you observe the happiness of clean water winding its way in the little creek near your feet.

Sit here for a moment and absorb the beauty of this place and this time in your life.
