A
Message from the President of
Spiritual
Awakening Spiritualist Center
Dear
Members and Friends,
As
we step into the month of October, a season of shifting light
and deepening reflection, I am reminded of how beautifully our
community continues to grow-both in spirit and in fellowship.
Autumn invites us to pause, breathe, and open ourselves to new
insights, and I am grateful that our church remains a place
where such growth is nurtured and shared.
This month, it is my pleasure to extend a heartfelt welcome
to two new guest mediums joining us from the United Kingdom:
Joanne O'Brien and Jane Hutchinson. We are delighted to have
them become part of our spiritual family, and we look forward
to the wisdom, compassion, and unique gifts they will bring
to our Sunday service. Their presence enriches our community
and reminds us that spiritual connection knows no borders.
We
are also pleased to welcome back two cherished friends of our
church-Rev. Malcolm Speirs from Canada and Norma Malcolm from
Scotland, UK. Many of you will remember the warmth, clarity,
and healing energy they have shared with us in the past. We
are grateful to have them with us again this month.
As
the weather turns colder, it’s important to care for our physical
well-being. Please remember to take those small, thoughtful
steps to stay healthy.
With
the days shortening and darkness settling in earlier, let us
be mindful — both in our travels and in our spiritual practice
— to keep our light shining. Whether through a kind word, a
shared smile, or a moment of reflection, we can brighten the
season for ourselves and others.
As
we move through October, may we each find moments of stillness
to listen inwardly, moments of courage to grow, and moments
of kindness to share with one another. Our community thrives
because of the love, openness, and support each of you brings.
Thank you for continuing to make this church a place where spirit
is honored, healing is offered, and every soul is welcomed.
Wishing
you a month filled with insight, peace, and gentle transformation.
May
October bring you warmth, connection, and inspiration.
In
fellowship and peace,
Michael

UPDATES
AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
|
Dear
Friends, Please remember to consider making a small donation
to support our Zoom Sunday services and Tuesday development
open circles. Some members prefer to give once a month, while
others choose to contribute for each service they attend. However
you choose to give, every contribution is deeply appreciated
and goes directly into our church fund.
Your
generosity helps honor the time, energy, and love shared by
those who work to keep our community vibrant and connected.
Together, we ensure our association continues to thrive.
Thank you for your kindness and continued support.

MEDITATION
SPIRITUALISM
AND SPIRITUALISTS
- What we Believe:
Featured
Article Contributed by Rev. Al Potts.
PROGRESS
|
|
Progress
in a spiritual way refers to the journey of development and
growth towards liberation and enlightenment. It encompasses
various practices and virtues that contribute to a deeper
understanding of oneself and one's relationship with the Divine.
|
|
What
is progress? In a physical world, we tend to perceive things
as reality, but often these perceptions are shaped by our minds.
As we grow older, we often don't like progress as it concerns
change. We often see change as an obstacle, when it can occasionally
be an improvement to our circumstances. If only in this temporary
existence, we had the insight to balance out the good from what
seems like an injustice.
|
|
|
|
This
physical life limits our understanding of life in the fullest
and we become lost in the reality of what is necessary for
our own wellbeing. Many people have no real understanding
of life on this planet and as their time here reaches its
climax, they are unprepared for the change which meets them
in the next level of consciousness. Time for them has not
really prepared them for the ongoing life, which they talk
about as life eternal.
|
|
Some
people will imagine that the spirit world is separate from their
life on earth, and yet that next incarnation surrounds us and
is very similar to the conditions on the earth plane. This life
is meant to prepare us for the next part of our spiritual development,
a time when pain and suffering is left behind and disease is
no more. Why do we put ourselves through this torment, when
the reality is there for our understanding and acceptance.
|
|
|
|
Progress
is open to every human soul, and that includes our animal
souls too. We say that we accept progress and yet so many
people have moved away from religious practices and only see
human activity as the right direction to travel.
Let
us not look at life only through rose-colored glasses, but
search for the reality of that life which will guide us eventually
into eternity.

FOOD
FOR THOUGHT

Investing
in your Mediumship.
One
of the greatest investments you can make in your mediumship…
is
finding a place where you can return each week.
Not
simply to learn.
But
to develop.
There
is a difference.
A
regular home circle offers something that occasional workshops
cannot.
It
gives you continuity.
A
place where Spirit comes to know you.
Where
your awareness is gently educated over time.
Where
theory becomes practice.
And
practice becomes experience.
Mediumship
is not developed through inspiration alone.
It
is developed through repetition.
Showing
up when you feel confident.
Showing
up when you doubt yourself.
Showing
up when nothing seems to happen.
Showing
up when everything suddenly begins to make sense.
Those
are the moments that shape a medium.
A
good development circle also gives you something equally valuable.
People
who understand.
Fellow
students who are walking a similar path.
An
experienced tutor who can help you make sense of your experiences,
answer your questions, and gently guide you when your own understanding
is still forming.
Because
mediumship can sometimes feel confusing.
It
can challenge your thinking.
It
can test your patience. And there are moments when simply talking
through your experiences with people who understand can bring
clarity that books alone never will.
Over
time, something else begins to happen.
Your
circle becomes more than a place to practise.
It
becomes part of your discipline.
A
commitment to your own development.
A
weekly appointment with yourself and with Spirit.
Because
while we often think we are developing mediumship…
perhaps
Spirit is quietly developing us.
And
that takes time.
Consistency.
Commitment.
A
willingness to keep taking your seat, week after week.
For
it is often in that faithful discipline that the deepest growth
quietly unfolds.

THE
FUNNY CORNER
October:
The Odd Uncle of the Calendar

October
was a funny, strange old man. He wore a coat stitched from pumpkin
vines, smelled faintly of cinnamon, and carried a pocket watch
that only ticked once a year — and only when he was around.
His eleven brothers and sisters — January through September,
plus November and December — didn’t bother with him much. They
said he was “too dramatic” and “always bringing weird friends
to dinner.” But October didn’t mind. He had a big secret.
You
see, on his very last day, October threw a party that no one
else could match. The guests? Goasts (ghosts who were terrible
at spelling) and gools (ghouls who were terrible at spelling
and dancing). They came to play, to cackle, to bob for apples
that screamed when bitten.
November, his shy younger brother, always peeked from behind
the curtains. He didn’t like loud noises, spooky shadows, or
candy corn — “It’s just sugar wearing a disguise,” he’d whisper.
But October knew something November didn’t: the party wasn’t
just for fun. It was the one night the pocket watch ticked,
unlocking a doorway to the Midnight Between Months — a place
where time stood still, and the ghosts and gools could rest
until next year.
And
as the clock struck midnight, October winked, tipped his pumpkin-vine
hat, and vanished until the next tick.

AND
FINALLY
|
Thanks
so much for reading this month’s newsletter. It’s amazing how
quickly time moves—it hardly seems like any time has passed since
we finished September’s issue. I hope you’re enjoying each day
as it comes and keeping our Spiritualist church and its values
in your daily thoughts. As the weather cools, stay cozy, stay
safe, and be well.
Blessings,
Love and Light
Michael
