WELCOME

A Message from the President of

Spiritual Awakening Spiritualist Center

Dear Members and Friends,

Welcome to September 2026 newsletter.

As we say goodbye to August and step into September, we should just pause for a moment and say thank You. Thank You Infinite Spirit for carrying us through another month-for the moments that made us smile, for the strength to get through the hard days, and for the little blessings we sometimes overlook.

We know the world is hurting. We think of those facing the aftermath of storms, fires, and floods-people who've lost homes, loved ones, and a sense of safety. We pray that they be surrounded with comfort, sent the help that they need, and given hope for brighter days.

Let us also remember all those living in the middle of conflict and war. We pray for peace to break through, for leaders to choose understanding over division, and for hearts to turn toward compassion instead of hate.

As we walk into this new month, let us be filled with kindness, courage, and hope. Being people who bring light where there's darkness, and love where there's pain.

May September be a month where we not only count our blessings, but also become a blessing to others.

Michael

SPIRITUALISM AND SPIRITUALISTS - What we Believe:

Featured Article Contributed by Rev. Al Potts.

Our soul hopes that we will grow through each challenge, find compassion or deeper love through every interaction, and expand into more of our genius and potential through every milestone. There will be one challenge greater than any it could ever set for us. And that is one that no single person gets to skip: the challenge of taking on an ego mind.

From: Your soul is the source of your power by Sean Collyns

When we moved from our previous incarnation and decided to enter a physical body, we planned our life's journey with all of the difficulties and uplifting times, knowing that we would then, when we entered the earthly consciousness, have no recollection of those plans. However it is as we proceed through from childhood to a point where education and  family influences begin to affect our brain, that we find that our higher self (the soul) is now joined by a second influence, the ego. The first being the one that carries all of the information that we need to take us through this earthly experience, and the second  which is affecting our daily thought processes and is a battle in our everyday earthly processes.
The soul being the higher self and the ego the lower self, the latter which will always try to stand in the way of inspiration from the soul energy and which will try to motivate us to take the wrong direction. Life is a battle of the senses and the ego, which is of the mind, is always at hand to push us into the wrong direction. In following the ego, we find ourselves pushed into materialism which gives us a great feeling of power. The world around us becomes  safe in the material sense and all feelings of  spiritual advancement are left behind. In these false material  gains we feel that we must build around us more and more material things which give us greater power. That power is but an illusion of greatness, and without the soul's guidance will wither and wane, as no matter what we accumulate, we cannot take material possessions to the next stage of our development in whatever level of consciousness we find ourselves in..
Ego often gives us the feeling of fulfilment, but is the greatest distraction from our soul's objective of spiritual advancement and gain. The development of the ego is a natural phenomena which exists in this world and gives us false security, and appears to give us protection from all of life's difficulties. If we move with the ego as our guiding influence, then we are preventing the nourishment of our soul from taking us in the direction of spiritual advancement. We move from this world with regrets and the realisation that our spiritual progression has been stunted.  In this physical experience we have a choice of direction and as anyone can tell you, this is not an easy process. However, the real essence of our being, the soul, is crying out for us to try to dwell within the higher part of our being and try to control the egotistical pressures that face us every day of our lives on this physical planet. Our soul is suppressed and the intention of the soul, which is to connect us with the Divine Power. Let us try to remain with truth as the most guiding influence in this life for truth remains the sustaining force throughout our eternal journey.

Rev. Al Potts.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Mediumship is the practice of facilitating communication between the spirit world and the living, a skill that requires sensitivity, discipline, and a deep commitment to truth. Among the many ways a medium can work, “going direct” — delivering a message from spirit directly to the intended recipient without guesswork or fishing for clues — is widely regarded as the ultimate demonstration of mastery. This approach not only validates the authenticity of the communication but also reflects the medium’s refined connection with the spiritual realm.

Demonstrating Mediumship

A medium demonstrates their ability through accuracy, clarity, and the emotional resonance of the messages they convey. In a typical session, the medium receives impressions — visual images, words, sensations, or emotions — from a spirit communicator. The skill lies in translating these impressions faithfully, without distortion, and presenting them in a way that the sitter (recipient) can recognize. True demonstration is not about vague statements or generalities; it is about delivering specific, verifiable details that leave no doubt about the source.

Why “Going Direct” Is the Highest Level

Going direct means the medium receives a message from a spirit and immediately knows — without asking questions or scanning the audience — who the message is for. This requires a strong, unbroken link with the communicator and a high degree of trust in the information received. At this level, the medium is not merely interpreting fragments but is acting as a clear channel, allowing the spirit’s intent to flow without interference.

This is the pinnacle of the art because it eliminates ambiguity. The sitter experiences the profound impact of being directly addressed by a loved one in spirit, and the audience witnesses undeniable evidence of survival beyond death. It is a moment where the medium’s role as a bridge between worlds is fully realized.

The Limitations of Indirect Work

Some mediums receive messages and then search for the recipient, asking questions like, “Does this make sense to anyone here?” While this can still bring comfort and healing, it leaves room for doubt and can dilute the power of the communication. This approach often reflects a developing stage of mediumship, where the link with spirit is not yet strong enough to pinpoint the intended recipient. Settling at this level risks stagnation; the medium may never discover the deeper, more precise connection that is possible.

The Call to Keep Learning

Mediumship is not a static gift but a discipline that can be refined through practice, study, and self-awareness. Those who have not yet mastered going direct should see this not as a failure but as an invitation to grow. By strengthening their attunement, deepening their trust in spirit, and honing their delivery, they can move toward the highest standard of evidence and impact. The journey to going direct is demanding, but it is also the path to the most profound and transformative demonstrations.

Conclusion

Going direct is more than a technique; it is the embodiment of a medium’s dedication to truth, clarity, and service. It represents the highest level of mediumship because it delivers undeniable evidence of spirit communication and honors both the communicator and the recipient. Mediums who aspire to this level not only elevate their own practice but also uphold the integrity of the art itself.

Philosophical

Mediumship is an art of trust — trust in the unseen, in the voice that whispers from beyond, and in one’s own ability to carry that voice faithfully to the living. Among its many forms, the purest is “going direct,” where the message arrives with such clarity that the medium knows exactly who it belongs to. This is not guesswork; it is the spirit world speaking with precision.

Narrative

The room was silent when the medium paused, eyes fixed on a woman in the third row. “Your father is here,” she said, without hesitation. The woman’s eyes filled with tears. No questions, no searching — just a direct link between two worlds. This is the moment every medium strives for: going direct.

Rhetorical Question

What separates a competent medium from a truly great one? Is it the number of messages they deliver, or the depth of their connection? The answer lies in one skill: going direct — the ability to bring a message from spirit straight to its intended recipient without a single doubt.

THE FUNNY CORNER

“September’s Midlife Crises”

September woke up one morning, looked in the mirror, and sighed.

“Great,” she muttered, “I’m the middle child of the year. Not as hot as July, not as sparkly as December… just… transitional.”

Determined to reinvent herself, September tried a few new looks.

First, she put on a summer dress — but the leaves started blushing and falling off the trees in embarrassment.

Then she tried a cozy autumn sweater — but the sun showed up in sunglasses, saying, “Whoa, slow down, pumpkin spice.”

September decided to throw a party to prove she was still fun. She invited Summer and Fall, but they kept arguing over the thermostat. Summer cranked it up to 85°F, Fall opened all the windows, and poor September just stood there holding a lukewarm cider, wondering if this was what a seasonal identity crisis felt like.

By the end of the month, September gave up trying to be cool or warm and just leaned into her true self: a month where you can wear flip-flops and a scarf in the same day… and somehow still be underdressed.

AND FINALLY

And finally… If you’ve made it all the way to this point in the newsletter, congratulations — you’ve officially earned your Endurance in Reading badge! (It’s virtual… but so is church these days, so it still counts.)

Thank you for sticking with us, for your continued support, and for being part of our community — whether you join us in your Sunday best or in your Sunday slippers. The best thing about online services? You can sing-a-long to our inspirational music as loud as you want… and only your cat will judge you.

As the nights draw in and the air turns cooler, may we all find warmth in our services, joy in our meditation circles, and maybe even a little extra comfort in a good cup of tea (or Coffee).

Here’s to a September filled with health, happiness, and the occasional Wi-Fi signal strong enough to keep your camera on.

God bless, and see you on Zoom!

Michael
