UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

A Message from the President of

Spiritual Awakening Spiritualist Center

Dear Members and Friends,

A very happy October to you all!

With summer evenings now long behind us, it’s time to welcome the month of October and all its awesome beauty. October’s crisp air, cool nights, and golden leaves are clear signs that we are now entering the depths of the fall season, my favorite season!

It’s the time of year where the October sunshine is just warm enough that you can get away with wearing cozy sweaters and jeans. Everything tastes and smells amazing, and the fall colors make every day seem like an entirely new beginning.

I hope this October brings you Peace, Joy and Happy Memories!

Looking forward to seeing you soon!

Sending Blessings, Love and Light to you ALL!

Michael

Two of our members had a wonderful week at the 'Arthur Findley College' in Stansted, England (August 20th to 27th). The Arthur Findley College is the home of the National Spiritualist Union (S.N.U) and is an education center for those interested in Spiritualism, catering to 80 plus students every week of all ages and nationalities.

Lindsay Kincaide and Gill Shaw at Stansted Hall, England.

Neither of them knew that the other had booked the same week until a few weeks before they were due to go. Lindsay flew to the UK from Florida and Gill drove down to Stansted from her home near Blackpool England. I'm sure they both had a fantastic reunion, and that we'll hear all about it soon!

VOICES FROM THE PAST

Voices of the Past Quotes for October Month

October is a month that brings forth a sense of nostalgia and reflection. It is a time when we remember the past, celebrate the present, and look forward to the future. Here are some quotes that capture the essence of October and its historical significance:

These quotes not only celebrate the beauty of October but also remind us of the historical events and cultural significance that have shaped the month. They serve as a reminder to appreciate the past, embrace the present, and look forward to the future with a sense of hope and anticipation.

"October is the month that seems all woven with midsummer dreams. She brings for us the golden days that fill the air with smoky haze." — Evalyn Callahan Shaw

"October, baptize me with leaves! Swaddle me in corduroy and nurse me with split pea soup. October, tuck tiny candy bars in my pockets and carve my smile into a thousand pumpkins. O autumn! O teakettle! O grace!" — Rainbow Rowell, Attachments

The Story of The Carrot, The Egg, and The Coffee Bean

A young girl went to her grandmother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling.

It seemed that, as one problem was solved, a new one arose. Her grandmother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to a boil. In the first, she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans.

She let them sit and boil, without saying a word. In about twenty minutes, she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl. Turning to her granddaughter, she asked, "Tell me, what do you see?"

"Carrots, eggs, and coffee," the young girl replied. The grandmother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. She then asked her to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg. Finally, she asked her to sip the coffee. The granddaughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma. The granddaughter then asked, "What does it mean, grandmother?"

Her grandmother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity - boiling water - but each reacted differently.

The carrot went in strong, hard and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak.

The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior. But, after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened!

The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water.

"Which are you?" the grandmother asked her granddaughter. "When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean?"

Think of this: Which am I? Am I the carrot that seems strong but, with pain and adversity, do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength?

Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit but, after a death, a breakup, or a financial hardship, does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and a hardened heart?

Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavour.

If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, do you get better and change the situation around you. When the hours are the darkest and trials are their greatest, do you elevate to another level?

How do you handle adversity? Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee Bean.

The happiest people don't necessarily have the best of everything, they just make the most of everything that comes along their way. The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past, you can't go forward in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.

When you were born you were crying and everyone around you was smiling. Live your life, so at the end, you're the one that is smiling and everyone around you is smiling. May we all be COFFEE !!!

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Food for Thought October Month

October is a month that brings with it the beauty of the leaves changing, cozy nights spent reading or cooking with loved ones, and plenty of pumpkin goodies. It's a time to reflect on the past year and to look forward to the new season that's just around the corner. Here are some ideas and inspiration for the October month:

Food Holidays: October is filled with food holidays, such as National Dessert Day, National Pizza Month, and more. Indulge in your favorite fall flavors and celebrate with a variety of delicious dishes.

Recipes: October is a month for comforting staples like chili and pot pies, warm-spiced baked goods like banana bread and pumpkin waffles, and more. These recipes seem to taste better during the spooky season.

Quotes: October is also a time to appreciate the beauty of the season with positive quotes that capture the essence of fall. From Nathaniel Hawthorne's "Happiness is like a butterfly" to Albert Camus' "Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower," these quotes can inspire and uplift.

Whether it's through food, recipes, or quotes, October is a month that invites us to embrace the beauty of the season and to celebrate the little things that make life enjoyable.
