A
Message from the President of
Spiritual
Awakening Spiritualist Center
Dear
Members and Friends, Season's Greetings!
As
the year draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the moments—both
big and small—that have shaped our journey together. Christmas has a
way of slowing us down, inviting us to pause amid the rush, and reminding
us of what truly matters: connection, kindness, and hope.
This
season, may we choose to see the light in one another, to extend grace
where it’s needed most, and to celebrate the beauty of simply being
present. Whether your days are filled with laughter around a crowded
table or quiet moments by the tree, I hope you feel the warmth of love
and the joy of belonging.
From
my heart to yours, thank you for being part of our story this year.
Wishing you a Christmas wrapped in peace, sprinkled with joy, and overflowing
with hope for the year ahead.
Merry
Christmas and Happy New Year,
Looking
forward to seeing you in 2026!
Blessings,
Love and Light.

SPIRITUALISM
AND SPIRITUALISTS
- What we Believe:
Featured
Article Contributed by Rev. Al Potts.
|
At this joyful time of the year we celebrate the memory
of a special child that brought so much hope to a troubled world.
The story is well documented and as children we were brought
up to listen to the many teachings and examples he brought in
his short life time.
|
 |
Even
over two thousand years ago, the coming of Jesus was condemned
by many before he even touched the earth plane. The world at
that times was searching for life as it was meant to be, but
many were forced to live the life of those leaders who were
interested in their own control. Men and women were meant to
listen too and learn from the Master, however, those who were
at the top of the political tree were afraid that this man was
more of a threat to them than an asset. How things have changed
very little in the prevailing years, and men and women are still
searching for the the real meaning to life.
|
|
Christmas should be teaching us how to blend our physical
lives with the important values of a spiritual experience, and
yet we are still facing the same old nonsense as that which
|
|
has
plagued us since mankind discovered the values of education.
Today we are facing men and women who are supposed to be the
leaders of this beautiful earth, often highly educated and who
are voted in by us. Christmas always promises us with the hope
that as time goes by, life will become tolerable if we only
listen, instead of voicing our opinions before we ask those
in the higher side of life for their guidance. Yes, let us put
up the Christmas Tree, which has been introduced as with many
other items to lighten up the season, but let us not deny the
value of the intention of the spirit of Christmas bringing hope.
|
|
The life of the baby Jesus was to bring the truth and reality
of life and to take us into the continuous life beyond this earth
plane Jesus said "Let the little children come to me"
|
|
|
because he knew that they had not yet been influenced by material
thoughts.
For those who believe in eternal life, which was proven by
the appearance of the Master after
his brutal
death, then life gives us the reason why we chose this life,
with all its joys and difficulties. The promise of Christmas
gives us all hope and helps us to lives our lives here understanding
the real reason for this wonderful time .We ask that those
who represent us in each part of the world will take up the
challenge, and be helped to make this life more spiritual,
not just for Christmas, but every day of our lives. Rumi,
the Sufi said "seek those who are searching for the Truth,
run away from those who say they have found it."
|
|
Let
this Christmas time be full of Joy, happiness, and in these
difficult times, full of reason and Hope for all of mankind.
A happy Christmas to all.
|
Merry
Christmas!
Rev.
Al Potts.

FOOD
FOR THOUGHT
|
It
was December 25, 1914, only 5 months into World War I. German,
British, and French soldiers, already sick and tired of the senseless
killing, disobeyed their superiors and fraternized with "the enemy"
along two-thirds of the Western Front (a crime punishable by death
in times of war). German troops held Christmas trees up out of
the trenches with signs, "Merry Christmas."
"You
no shoot, we no shoot." Thousands of troops streamed across a
no-man's land strewn with rotting corpses. They sang Christmas
carols, exchanged photographs of loved ones back home, shared
rations, played football, even roasted some pigs.
|
|
|
Soldiers embraced men they had been trying to kill a few short
hours before. They agreed to warn each other if the top brass
forced them to fire their weapons, and to aim high.
|
|
A
shudder ran through the high command on either side. Here was
disaster in the making: soldiers declaring their brotherhood with
each other and refusing to fight. Generals on both sides declared
this spontaneous peacemaking to be treasonous and subject to court
martial. By March 1915 the fraternization movement had been eradicated
and the killing machine put back in full operation. By the time
of the armistice in 1918, fifteen million would be slaughtered.
|
|
|
Not
many people have heard the story of the Christmas Truce. On Christmas
Day, 1988, a story in the Boston Globe mentioned that a local
FM radio host played "Christmas in the Trenches," a ballad about
the Christmas Truce, several times and was startled by the effect.
The song became the most requested recording during the holidays
in Boston on several FM stations.
|
|
"Even more startling than the number of requests I get is the
reaction to the ballad afterward by callers who hadn't heard it
before," said the radio host. "They telephone me deeply moved,
sometimes in tears, asking, 'What the hell did I just hear?' "
|
|
You
can probably guess why the callers were in tears. The Christmas
Truce story goes against most of what we have been taught about
people. It gives us a glimpse of the world as we wish it could
be and says, "This really happened once." It reminds us of those
thoughts we keep hidden away, out of range of the TV and newspaper
stories that tell us how trivial and mean human life is. It is
like hearing that our deepest wishes really are true: the world
really could be different.
|
This
song is based on a true
story from the front lines of World War I that
I've heard many times. Ian Calhoun, a Scot, was the commanding
officer of the British forces involved in the story. He was subsequently
court-martialed for 'consorting with the enemy' and sentenced
to death. Only George V spared him from that fate. -- John McCutcheon
